Liven up your home with color in 2009

“The whole world, as we experience it visually, comes to us through the mystic realm of colour,” says Hans Hofmann, an internationally acclaimed abstract artist. We never realize how much nature plays a part in the way we decorate our homes. All colours come from nature and we mix and match to bring out the best qualities in each. Bright Autumn colours like yellow and orange are combined to create an ambiance of warmth, while combinations of white and lighter shades of blue instantly cools down a room. Every colour has a personality, when combined with a complimenting shade, they come alive. Purples and greens have featured in past décor palettes, but slightly less bold. This year, however, designers encourage you to place more emphasis on these colours and their striking characteristics.

2009 brings numerous versions of colour; instead of having one ‘hot’ colour, experts have identified a few to combine and create a unique décor-artwork of your home. Purple can be mixed up with metallic colours or pastels; gone are the days of decorating with only one colour. Purple and gold is a new combination that many more confident décor enthusiasts would attempt, but 2009 allows this combination. Combining grey and silver with purple, is a safer choice that would look great in a modern dinning area.

We are all aware that green signifies nature and have used it in the past to create a tranquil environment. Designers have now extended this property to embrace more unconventional decorating. Herbal green for instance, reminds you of gardens and how clean and orderly they are, therefore one should use this colour for scatter cushions and pouf’s as they add neatness. For a colour that adds richness into your home, golden greens are introduced to the palette. This colour would complement bedrooms. For a more antique feel, add silver and gold. These two colours are a must have for chairs, mirrors and wardrobes. Mixing pink with the silver is also another antique feel.

Playing with colour while decorating, is an experience that portrays your unique personality. If you feel like combining two colours that normally do not go together, then try it, and invite your friends and family to approve. 2009 embraces change and encourages experimenting with the array of colours that nature provides.
